Imagine if your brain could connect to the cloud (TED Talk)

Imagine a world where you don't need to study to learn, where you don't need to remember information to recall information, where you can go from knowing nothing about something to knowing everything about something in a moment - now imagine!

The common debate / narrative that has been portrayed in recent films such as Limitless and Lucy is that humans only use 10% of their brains capacity - where even a small increase to this could arm us humans with literally 'limitless' mental processing potential.

If you are like me then after watching these kind of films you find yourself in an exciting headspace where for a few brief moments of intense day dreaming you imagine a world where so much more is possible.

Now I am not qualified to say whether or not the 10% element is true or false (there is a lot of debate on this that you will find through a simple Google Search), however from what I have read, watched and experienced, I am definitely of the opinion that the brain is like any of muscle; the more it is used and trained, then the greater its capacity, speed and ability. Likewise, the less it is used, the more that can be lost and forgotten - this is known as the 'use it or lose it' philosophy many neuroscientists speak of. This is clearly displayed and magnified by memory and psychological masters such as Derren Brown, books such as 'The Brain That Changes Itself' that focuses on the neuroplasticity of the brain, documentaries like ABC's 'Redesign My Brain', and multi-million global brain training initiatives such as Lumosity.

Ray Kurzweil the speaker in the TED Talk below has been studying the brain for the last fifty years and is an engineer who has radically advanced the fields of speech, text and audio technology.

Here is the summary taken from the TED website that sums up this great talk "Two hundred million years ago, our mammal ancestors developed a new brain feature: the neocortex. This stamp-sized piece of tissue (wrapped around a brain the size of a walnut) is the key to what humanity has become. Now, futurist Ray Kurzweil suggests, we should get ready for the next big leap in brain power, as we tap into the computing power in the cloud."

Nanobots in humans neocortex accessing cloud data in real time.....Woah! Now that's a game changer!

Enjoy - it gets very interesting around the 7.5 minute mark!
